The Industrial Revolution in the 1800s was when many new machines were invented, and used in factories. It was also the spark of most of our everyday luxuries, and New York was where the Industrial Revolution happened.  New York State was where some of the leading factories were built for businesses. The Erie Canal was also a reason why New York is one of the leaders of the Industrial Revolution. The Erie Canal made it easier for goods to travel around New York and from the Atlantic to the Great Lakes.

New York City is one of the biggest cities in America. The city is so big, you would often find a lot of businesses. A lot of businesses meant a lot of factories. The factories in New York were usually for new inventions like a  steel mill or bread factories. New York made so much bread in the 1800's they were nicknamed the bread basket. The factories in New York involved a lot of workers. There were so many jobs available that the population went up.

The Erie Canal originated in Albany and ran straight through Central New York and ended in Buffalo. Just like the song. The Erie Canal even ran through Rome, N.Y. The canal's businesses improved the economy during the Industrial Revolution. The Canal has seen some of the greatest advances in marine and watercraft technology too. There were many changes in boats also, row boats to steam boats to gas and even electric powered boats.

The Erie canal was the fastest way to get goods around New York. It was also the largest canal in the United States. The canal was built to make the transportation of good easier and more convenient. It wasn't only for goods it was also for a fast way for people in central New York to get around. Even today the canal is still open to people who need to travel.
