The Cold War and the War on Terror are more different than they are similar. They were in against different enemies and at different times. There are some similarities, though. In the Cold War the enemy were communist, and in the War on Terror the enemy were capitalist. We got involved with the Cold War because we were trying to contain communism. We were involved with the War on Terror because terrorists had hijacked a plane and flew them into the Twin Towers killing thousands.

The Cold War and the War on Terror are very similar. Both the Cold War and the War on Terror were both involved in infinite wars. This similarity is important because the Cold War has ended but, we are still fighting the War on Terror. Another similarity is that oil prices increased in both the Cold War and the War on Terror. The third similarity in both wars they fought through dictatorship. During the cold war people would put up protests against the war. Today, there are few protest about the war on terror The last similarity is the Patriot Act and McCarthyism. McCarthyism happened during the 1950s. The Patriot Act is happing today witch started in 2002. McCarthyism was when the government accused people of being communist. The government had the right to search your house and get information without a warrant or a trial. The Patriot Act is similar to McCarthyism because if someone was suspected or aiding a terrorist the government has the right to search the persons house and seize information without trial or without a warrant.

The Cold War and the War on Terror are also different. Both the Cold War and the War on Terror had different battles fought. This difference is important because during the Cold War the wars were the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The War on Terror battles so far are the Afghanistan War and the Iraq War. Another difference is that both wars are from different time periods. The Cold War happened during the 1940s and ended in 1990. The War on Terror started in 2000 and its still on the rise. A third difference is that in the Cold War the US wanted to contain communism. In the War on Terror the US wants to contain terrorism.

Therefore, the Cold War and War on Terror are two totally different wars with some similarity's. The Cold War was basically to contain communism. Where the War on Terror is basically to contain terrorism. The only big similarity with the two wars are McCarthyism and the Patriot Act.
