2) The Advantages of the Union and the Confederacy

Many things caused the Civil War. It was caused because the North and South had many differences and similarities. Some differences were that the North had more money, factories, and people; the South had well trained troops. Also they had the "home field advantage".They were similar because they both belonged to the United States.

The Union (North) and the Confederacy (South) were very similar. Both had very similar plans for war. They both had a defensive plan even when the the Union had an offensive advantage. The Union and the Confederacy both had a main general for their army. The North had Butlers, Nannies, and House Keepers but they payed them to work for them. The South had slaves that they did not pay and worked on the plantation.

The North and the South were also very different. The Union had more money, people, factories and more railroads for transportation of weapons, giving the North a big advantage. Another difference is that the North had the President of the United States (Abraham Lincoln) on their side and he wanted to preserve the Union. The South was also different because they had a strong, well trained army. The Southern men also owned their own weapons and could shoot straight. The Union troops were city boys. Also, the South had their own President, Jefferson Davis, and their leading general, Robert E. Lee. Both the North and the South had different goals during the war. The North wanted to preserve the Union and eventually abolish slavery and the South wanted to keep slavery.

Therefore the Union and the Confederacy during the Civil War had many differences and similarities.  As each side had a different idea about slavery, it was eventually illegal in the United States and African Americans were free.
